Special Announcement

There is a podium set up in front of a PWA backdrop. A number of microphones are pre-set, but the murmur of the crowd indicates that there would be a fairly large amount of other journalists recording as well. A few moments later, a curtain to the side is pushed to the side, and Snow comes walking out to the stadium. He is wearing his mask, but otherwise is dressed in street clothes. He steps to the stadium puts his hands on other side to steady himself, closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. There is a long moment of near complete silence before he opens his eyes and starts to speak.

SNOW: I’d like to thank you all for coming today. I know it’s kind of nasty outside and this press conference was called sort of last minute, so I understand how inconvenient this may have been for some of you. So your presence here is greatly appreciated, and is even sort of a comfort.

SNOW: I am here to make an announcement. At the end of season 6 of the PWA schedule, my contract as an active competitor is set to expire. PWA management, to their credit, offered a rather generous extension on that contract. One that I strongly considered. But after a long time spent soul searching, meditating, and talking to friends and family, I have come to the conclusion that once this contract ends, it is in my best interest to retire from active competition.

SNOW: Please, save all your questions until the end. As some of you may know, I got my big break when Eddie Lukin was scouting the independent promotions in Mexico and actively recruited me to join his roster over in SHAFT. I, of course, jumped at the opportunity. This was the chance of a lifetime, and I wasn’t going to give it up. But what isn’t as well known is that by the time I joined SHAFT, I had been wrestling all over North America, in backyards, in gymnasiums, in church halls — I had been doing this already for nearly ten years. And that was nearly twenty years ago now.

SNOW: I have had a long career. I’ve been on the top of the mountain in multiple promotions, most recently here in PWA. Hell, Pantaro and I were the last Tag Team Champions that SHAFT ever saw. But I am closing in on fifty years old, and with all due respect to the Wyld family and Nemesis Rex, I really don’t want to be out here leaping and hurting myself when I’m fifty, sixty, or even seventy years old. I mean, those guys felt old when I got my big break, and they’re still here putting on killer matches. But that isn’t me.

SNOW: So, in conjunction with the PWA management, we have arranged a kind of going away tour. We’ve reached out to a number of people I’ve worked with in the past, in this promotion and others. Some we have arranged to have a one off match. Some we might pull out some surprises. But my goal with this season is the same as it has always been. To put on five star matches that really get the crowds going. To put on the match of the night. And to my downright best to win cleanly and fairly.

SNOW: But there is one thing that I have requested that hasn’t yet been approved. I’ve always wanted to retire on top, or at least as close to it as I could be. So I have requested of the PWA brass that on the last Assault of the season, as my last official match, that I be placed in a Light Heavyweight Championship match, regardless of who the champion is at that point in time. No doubt, since Brawler Beckett is current holder of that title, there would be some consternation there. I admit, I’m loathe to even ask for that match. But if the company wishes to have him represent them, the least I can do is acknowledge it. And who knows, maybe I can deliver him one last blow before I leave.

SNOW: Now, on to the next point of business. I believe that my retirement tour will begin on the first episode of Battery. I have asked to start it off against my most recent success in this business, my student, my friend, La Nieve. From there, expect to see old friends and old foes as the season continues. But La Nieve shows that my transition out of active competition has promise. And some of you may have noticed my phrasing there. It is true that I have signed a contract extension with PWA, but it will not be as an active competitor. For the last three off seasons, I have been recruiting on my own. La Nieve was the one who found me, who asked me to mentor her. But she is just the first. I have opened my own school, my own training location. And I have worked with PWA to guarantee that my graduates be at least allowed to try out for this company when I deem them fit to do so…and I think a couple of them might be close. None that we’ll see this season, I don’t think, but stay tuned. I’ve found some amazing competitors, and I hope the House of Snow will be a force in this business for decades to come.

SNOW: With that said, I think we can open the floor to questions now…

The volume fades out, and the screen fades to white.
