***The scene opens backstage at the PWA Arena. Akira Wyld stands in front of a blue and silver backdrop with the Wyld Family Logo emblazoned across it. He paces back and forth with a determined look on his face.***
AKIRA: “Last season, I was brought to one of the lowest points of my career. I let myself get manipulated by Damion Black into nearly betraying everything that the Wyld Family stood for. But thanks to the support of my family, I was able to face down my demons and finally put an end to a rivalry that defined my time in PWA for eight seasons. I entered PWA Undaunted on the brink of self-destruction, and at the end of the night, I stood in the center of the ring…complete and whole for the first time in many years.”
***Akira lets a small smile crease the corner of his mouth.***
AKIRA: “And as season nine of PWA started, I stepped into the PWA Arena with a new sense of purpose and freedom. On the first Assault of the new season, I declared in front of the world that Akira Wyld was on a mission to win his first PWA Championship. I told the PWA Armada that I had entered the King of Deathmatch tournament and was determined to see it through to the end. But unfortunately… Victor Sokolov had other ideas. He attacked me in the ring and left me beaten and unconscious. When I entered the ring later that evening in my King of Dearhmatch qualifying match, I did so with injured ribs and a concussion. And unfortunately, that’s where my tournament dreams ended.”
***Akira nods and paces back and forth.***
AKIRA: “But that’s okay… because in that moment of defeat, my path became clear. I knew that it was my destiny to face Victor Sokolov for the PWA Heavyweight Championship. All last season, the Siberian Psychopath laid waste to the PWA heavyweight division. He put down challenger after challenger… including my brother Rebel Wyld. For months, people all over the world have been asking the same question… ‘Who can beat Victor Sokolov?’”
***Akira stops pacing and stares at the camera.***
AKIRA: “Well I’m here to tell the world… that *I* can beat Victor Sokolov. I’m here to remind PWA that I *have* beaten Victor Sokolov. I beat him in iNCW four seasons ago for the NWC World Title. I beat him a second time *defending* that title. I pinned him clean for a three count on PWA Battery last month on the road to Undaunted. Over the past three seasons I’ve taken the fight to Victor Sokolov harder than anyone in the world… and I know that I have what it takes to pry the PWA Heavyweight Title from around his waist once and for all.”
***Akira runs his hand through his hair and nods slowly.***
AKIRA: “But I *also* know what the doubters out there would say about my chance of accomplishing that. They look at the merciless beating Victor Sokolov gave Rebel Wyld at Undaunted. They look at my failed attempt to beat the Sokolov Open Challange in season eight. They point to the fact that every recognized victory I’ve had over the Siberian Psychopath has come in multi-man matches. Naysayers look at the tale of the tape and say that there’s no chance I can beat Sokolov for the PWA Title in a one-on-one match. Well I say that past history is *precisely* how I know I *can* beat Victor Sokolov. I’ve proven I can put Sokolov’s shoulders to the mat. I’ve proven that when *gold* is on the line, I can take things to an all new level and *match* Sokolov for intensity. After my victory over Damion Black at Undaunted, I’m more confident and capable than I’ve ever been… and I know that scares the Siberian Psychopath.”
***Akira nods and makes a fist.***
AKIRA: “But… despite the way it looks…. I’m not out here to demand a title match. Despite what George Prescott seems to think of me, I don’t think my history with Sokolov entitles me to a damn thing. The PWA championship is sacred, and it deserves to be fought over at the highest level. The way I see it… the challenger to that title should be someone who erases all doubts and *earns* their shot by beating every challenge laid out in front of them. So… you’ve heard my case. I’ll put this in the hands of the PWA Armada. What do I need to do to convince the world that Akira Wyld should be the number one contender to Sokolov’s crown? For the past three weeks I’ve been on a winning streak, putting down every challenger I’ve faced. I’m primed and I’m ready to face anyone. So… if there is *anyone* in that locker room who thinks that they deserve to be number one contender more than me… well, I plan on being in the ring this coming week at PWA Assault, and you know where to find me.”
***Akira slams a fist into his open palm and glares at the camera as the screen fades to black.***
Akira Wyld has one goal… a reckoning with Victor Sokolov
