*** It is the Main Line Wrestling press conference. Three men sit behind a long conference table on the stage. A mid-30’s man with short blond hair wearing a $5,000 blue mohair suit, a man with long brown hair pulled back in a ponytail and a thick greying beard wearing a grey Moore’s 2-for-1 special, and a man with sandy brown hair and a dark goatee wearing a black dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up along with a brown vest and slacks that look about as close to a suit as he is going to get. They are in turn: Michael Lawnrence the owner and CEO of MLW, Nick Van Anderson the head booker and commentator, and Roderick Kent manager of NEW stable “The Syndicate” ***
LAWRENCE: “First off, I’d like to send my best wishes and heartfelt condolences to the Lemon family. Nothing I can say or do in this troubled time can ease their grief. However if there is ever anything I can do to be of assistance, I would like them to know that all of us here at Main Line Wrestling are here for them.”
LAWRENCE: “As for us, we have begun stress testing our new federation, our broadcasting system and our timeslot for our upcoming flagship program. Our first ‘Test of Strength’ as we like to call it was not without some hiccups, but I have every confidence in Mr. Van Anderson and his staff to make the necessary corrections in time for our full debut scheduled for three weeks from Saturday. As such, I have apointed Mr. Van Anderson to Vice President of Operations to give him more autonomy over programming, and have promoted Mr. Kent to Vice President of Marketing and Talent Relations to fully utilize his deep knowledge of the sport and his network of connections.”
LAWRENCE: “Personally, I prefer to leave operations in the hands of the experts. True wrestling fans and people with a deep knowledge and understanding of the sport. I have no intention of climbing in the circled square and engaging in Boston Locks or Horseshoe Crabs with men thrice my size. However, I believe I have chosen the right people to lead this organization forward. I have had the pleasure of many fruitful conversations with the talented Mr. Damion Black on the golf course, and have had some initial discussions with Mr. KB Kronic of iNCW as well. They have taught me a great deal about the business side of the industry, and I am pleased to announce MLW will be applying to join the prestigious National Wrestling Council. On that note, I’d like to pass things along to my new VP of Operations. Why don’t you tell us more about this week’s event?”
*** Van Anderson leans into his mic ***
VAN ANDERSON: “Thank you, Mr. Lawrence. And thank you to the fans, reporters in attendance and to the wonderful wrestling community! I’m very excited for this opportunity to add to the plethora of top-flight wrestling fans can see every week on NWC broadcasts. I’m proud of the effort we put in on our first live show, and I think this week’s clash will be even better! We will once again be streaming live on Twitch, but I’ll make sure there’s a replay available on both Twitch and Youtube for those who want to catch the action at a time of their leisure! Thanks to our good friend Damion Black, we have a packed card next week! “Lightning” Derek Arzon will face the Crimson Cyclone! Representing CJPW’s Forces of Nature, Stellarator will be taking on Scott and Brian Williams! Law and Order will square off against Tyson Bradley and Jackson Bains, representing The Syndicate!”
KENT: “Be sure not to miss that one!”
VAN ANDERSON: “Ahem. Yes. Kelly Williams will look to parlay his newly acquired CJPW Light Heavyweight Championship into a unified MLW Cruiserweight Title as he takes on Canadian Extreme Wrestling’s reigning Cruiserweight Champion Justin “The Contingency” Case! And in our main event, CXW Heavyweight Champion Erc Carter, the Maple Leaf Warrior, will be facing former champion and CXW alumnus The Factor in our MLW Heavyweight Elimination Tournament!”
LAWRENCE: “Wonderful. Very exciting stuff! I’m certain we will all be looking forward to it. Mr. Kent, would you like to elaborate on the state of our roster and our recruitment efforts going forward?”
*** Kent smiles smugly into the camera ***
KENT: “Sir, yes, sir! We have, if you’ll excuse me for saying so myself, possibly the greatest roster of wrestlers in recorded history already. If the first Greeks to ever slather themselves in olive oil and go blow for blow could see us now, they’d have to get carried off on their shields in shame! That said, we’re always looking to add to the greatest show on mat! If you used to wrestle in NEW, CXW or in Japan, send me a message! Maybe refresh my memory a little bit. And I promise you, you’ll get all the respect and accolades you deserve! And if you’re a newcomer? That’s fine, too! We’ll be holding auditions every month at a stop along our tour, and you’ll get to trade holds and learn some foul language from the best in the business! Fire me or ol’ Nicky here an email, hit us up on Discord, hit us up on Twitch! Any application good enough for PWA is good enough for us! We’ll get you on the TV and make you a star!
*** Michael Lawrence nods along thoughtfully. Van Anderson tries hard not to facepalm ***
LAWRENCE: “Wonderful. I love the enthusiasm. Well, that about wraps things up for now. I have a flight to Zurich to catch. We won’t be fielding questions at this time, but feel free to submit any you may have in writing. We will respond to your inquiries at a time and place of our choosing. Thank you all once again, and be sure to tune in this Saturday at 3 Pacific, 5 Central Standard for the next MLW Test of Strength.”
*** The reporters in attendance surge to their feet, snapping photos and asking questions that go unanswered as the press conference comes to its conclusion ***
